How to update your Commander timer:

The firmware update process is simple and should typically take around 5 minutes. Simply follow these steps:

Step 1: Install free communication app (nRF Toolbox) which is used for sending update command to the timer and to upload the firmware file.

for iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/nrf-toolbox/id820906058

for Android: https://play.google.com/store/search?q=nrf%20toolbox&c=apps

Step 2: Download corresponding firmware file depending on which timer model you have, LCD or OLED

LCD Firmware

OLED Firmware

IMPORTANT NOTE!:

On Android device you can save the file and open it later in the nRF Toolbox app when we need it in Step #9.

However, on iOS device either due to a bug or other unknown to us reason, you cannot do that, instead, file needed to be directly sent (Shared) to the app, this is how you can do that: 1. Click on the link above and file will be downloaded into "Downloads" location on your phone. 2. Launch "Files" app that is standard in the iOS and find the file that you just downloaded, typically it will be at the top of the list already. 3. Tap and hold the file until a drop-down dialog pops up prompting you to choose what you want to do with it. 4. Choose "Share" and then chose "nRF Toolbox" from the list of apps to which you are sharing this. After you shared this file, iOS may automatically open nRF Toolbox, simply ignore and close it now. At this point the file is transferred into nRF toolbox and later in step #9 it will be just waiting for you there.

Step3: Turn the timer on, keep it close tothe device that you will be using to upload update to the timer, and launch the nRF Toolbox app. It will look similar to this (illustration below), basically a panel comprised of multiple various individual tools.

Step 4: Launch "Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter" tool. (in iOS version of the app it is third from the bottom).

Once launched, it will prompt you to connect to the timer as shown in the left illustration below, click "Connect" and choose your timer in the list (as shown in the middle illustration below). Once connected,  the timer and Phone/Table will exchange some information which you can see in "logger" panel. (right illustration below).

Step 5: At the top of the Logger panel, you can see a text field where you can enter a command that you want to send to the timer. Enter "DFU COM" command without quotation marks, all caps. See illustration below for reference. Once this command send to the timer, it will make timer switch into update mode and terminate existing connection, you will see a message that will read "Device Not Connected". Now you can exit from this tool back into main app by pressing little "< " symbol in the top/left corner of the screen.

Step 6: Now that you are back to main screen, this time launch in "Direct Firmware Update" tool (in iOS version of the app it is second from the bottom)

Step 7: Inside Direct Firmware Update tool choose upper "Connect" option (Connect and update Bluetooth Device)

Step 8: You will be prompted to choose which device you want to connect to, this list can be short or long, depending on how many Bluetooth devices are currently active around. Choose one that has a name "ComDfu", in the illustration below it is third from the top for example.

Step 9: Then you will be prompted to choose which firmware file you want to upload to the timer, in the Android version of the app you can click import and chose file from the location that you saved it to in Step #2. In iOS version of the app, because we previously already sent file directly to this app, the file will already be waiting for you in here as shown in the illustration below, so simply choose it from the list.

A note for Android users: When selecting the file in Android version of the app, instead of just tapping on the filename, press and hold it until a green check mark appears next to it, and then tap "open".

Step 10: The update file will be tested for integrity and a confirming "Ready for update" message can be seen at the top of the screen (left illustration below), next, tap "Update" button on the bottom of the screen. (also left illustration below). Uploading process with commence, which is indicated by rotating arrows. (middle illustration below). Once upload is successfully finished, a confirmation message in form or a green check mark will appear (right illustration below). Restart the timer. Done!
